Are you interested in exploring the different styles of graffiti? Have you tried creating graffiti letters, but you want to expand your skills to include graffiti art? Check out these different styles as a baseline for inspiration as you explore your mode of expression.
Aerosol Spray Paint
When you think of graffiti, you probably think of spray painted walls. This is the classic graffiti style, perfected by artists around the world. Some aerosol art utilizes complicated shading and fill ins that require layers of spray paint, while other examples of aerosol art are more rudimentary in nature.
Stencil Base
Many famous graffiti artists use stencils for their baseline artwork then add finishing touches with fine paint brushes. Stencils offer the advantage of quick application and clear, crisp lines. Create your own stencils at home and practice on sheets of cardboard or poster board until you perfect your stencils and finishing artwork. When you feel you've got this practice down, you can try your stencil work on a wall or mural.
Paste Up
Poster art and paste ups are also common forms of graffiti. If you prefer to work at home and want to paste up an intricate piece of work, you might prefer this style of graffiti art.
Paint Roller
Some graffiti artists use paint rollers and fine brushes for crisp, clear lines and giant-scale works. You may find this type of art appealing if you want your art to be seen from far away.
Mixed Media
Often posters are pasted ups and combined with paint, stencil and aerosol to create large scale murals and wall graffiti. Some of these projects can be very intricate.
To find your style of graffiti, you'll need to experiment and keep your eye out for inspiration. Who knows? Maybe someone will take pictures of a project you created someday.
