Marley grew up poor in Jamaica and learned to sing and play the guitar at any early age. In his short life he became a super star who helped introduce the reggae and the Rastafaria movement to the world. He was awarded the International Peace Medal by the United Nations in 1978 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
