Popular Eminem songs, aren't necessarily "admired" or "approved" by all. Eminem is famous for writing song lyrics that spur controversy. He uses explicit lyrics and intentionally offensive language. His topics range from politics to tabloid material; it appears there is no subject Eminem is afraid to tackle. The following songs have attracted attention over the years:
"Just Don't Give A…"
Two of Eminem's first songs to garner attention were "Brain Damage" and "Just Don't Give a F---." These songs were released on The Slim Shady LP, a collection of songs titled after what Eminem refers to as his alter ego or the bad boy side of his personality. When asked about these songs, Eminem credited the popularity to the fact that everyone feels like he does sometimes. He says no matter what your upbringing, you sometimes feel like life isn't fair and you feel like telling the world to just leave you alone. You just want to decide not to care and to just do whatever makes you forget for a while. It appears Eminem was onto something: both songs helped Eminem develop the beginning of a fan base. The Slim Shady LP won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
"The Real Slim Shady"
This song, which appeared on The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) stirred up controversy because it alluded to alleged sexual conduct between celebrities. The celebrities mentioned in the song denied any such contact, but fans loved the lyrics.
"Just Lose It"
This song, which appeared on Encore (2004) caused a fuss because of its apparent alluding to the misfortunes of Michael Jackson. The song's lyrics claim not to be a slam on Michael Jackson, but the lyrics mention his plastic surgeries, his legal woes and his incident during a Pepsi commercial shooting when Jackson's hair caught on fire. Eminem caught a lot of flack from fans and fellow musical artists after releasing this song, which is interesting since Eminem had just gotten done complaining that Weird Al Yankovich was producing a parody of one of Eminem's songs.
"Mosh"
Another famous Enimen song is the anti-war song "Mosh". While it appears on Encore, this song was released early, just before the 2004 presidential election, and was accompanied by a music video encouraging people to vote against George W. Bush.
"We As Americans"
The song "We As Americans" grabbed national attention because of the lyrics that sounded like threats on President George W. Bush. The lyrics that stirred up controversy were the following:
"I don't rap for dead presidents
I'd rather see the president dead
It's never been said, but I set precedents"
