How to Make Hand Puppets

By: Julie Knapp

Hand puppets are just the craft you need on a rainy day. By following these easy instructions, you will be able to make kid-friendly hand puppets from construction paper and other supplies you probably already have in your craft box.

Hand Puppets
Ingredients You Will Need
2 sheets of construction paper, different colors
Glue
Scissors
Pencil
Add-ons: buttons, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, pom poms, ribbon, fabric scraps, etc.
Markers or crayons

Decide which color of construction paper you want to use as the face of your puppet. Fold that piece of construction paper in half from top to bottom.

Unfold the paper again and put glue on the top edge and side edges, leaving the bottom unglued because this is where you will put your hand. Refold.

Use your markers, crayons and crafty add-ons to give your puppet face some personality.

Create the rest of your puppet using the second piece of construction paper. You may only want to add a bow, a tongue, or a hat, or you may want to cut out arms, legs and a middle. Whatever you choose is fine. Once it's cut out, decorate it and glue on.

Wait for the puppet to dry. Ten minutes should do the trick, or if you're patient wait a few hours to ensure it's completely secure.

Put on a show. Now that you have made your hand puppets, you can gather your friends and show off your puppetry talent.
