Before getting a tattoo, there are more than a few things to consider. Although the health risks and the potential for regret have been used as cautionary tactics for those who want to "get inked," it is important for you to make a decision about tattoos that reflects what you truly believe. An early step in getting a tattoo is deciding on a style or design. This piece of art will likely be on your body for the rest of your life, so it is important to make sure it is something you want. Tattoos have been around for thousands of years, and they have become more and more popular as tattooing techniques and results have drastically improved. Tattoo ink and tools have come a long way since the days of the greenish blue variety. By Marie Lorraine |
So you've decided to get inked. Now, you must make a few important decisions. Decisions that you will live with for the rest of your life. Your first decision is probably the most important, the actual design of the tattoo. |
Getting a tattoo is a huge decision. Tattoos are permanent. (Even though removal options are now available, they are costly and often leave scars). Before you get inked, think through every aspect of the decision, and make sure you do it right. Deciding Where to Get a Tattoo Although tattoos are becoming increasingly popular, there are still many places they are unacceptable. |
So you have made the decision to get your first tattoo. Now you are going to need to find a reputable tattoo parlor to take care of this special event. Making sure that you choose a qualified and capable tattoo parlor will really determine how good a tattoo you will get. |

With society changing in so many ways, getting a tattoo is not as taboo as it used to be. There are a lot of individuals who are choosing to get a tattoo or three now days. I worked in a tattoo shop called Wind-chimes Tattoo in Delaware. I was the receptionist, which required me to greet the customers as well as help with their decision of what they wanted. I also handled the money and relayed the work to the artists. Sometimes my job called for Special Care such as holding the hand of a first-timer. Whether people know it or not tattoo artists are not just out for the money. I have seen a lot of artists turn work down because the person did not seem sure enough about getting the tattoo, or the piece they had picked out was not a real good choice. Our slogan was Yes it hurts, which is the number one question everyone asks. Of course it hurts. We had strict rules at Wind-chimes. |
When you decide that you want a tattoo you need to put a lot of thought into what you want and where you want it. Some people don't want their parents to find out that they have a tattoo, so they put it some where that the parents can't see. |
Despite what you may have been told there is no sure way to determine the amount of pain that you may experience when getting a tattoo.
