Before you apply these eye makeup techniques, start with clean and dry eyelids. You can use a foundation base to prime the lid if so desired. You can also choose to use a cream eyeshadow base to help preserve your look. Prepped or bare, dust your eyelid area with a light, natural color that just seems slightly brighter than your skin tone.
Add some colored eyeshadow to your eyelid. Do not use the colored eyeshadow too close to the inner lid or over the eyeball crease, or it will make your eyes seem small instead of big. Sweep a tiny bit of light sparkle to the upper brow if desired. Now blend the eyeshadows gently across your eye in an up and out motion. Avoid letting the colored shadow fall into the eyelid creases.
Never start your eye makeup too close to your nose.
Your eyes appear narrow and closer together if your eyeshadow and eyeliner stray all the way to the inner eye and up the nose. You need to start all makeup a bit back from your inner eye. This makes eyes appear bigger and wider apart.
Never use dark shades on your brow bone.
The upper area of your eye, right under your eyebrow, is called your brow bone. Proper eyeshadow application and a light hue in this area can lift your face and make your eyes seem bigger. A dark splash on the brow bone makes your eyes look small, stern and angry.
Never apply eyeshadow below your eye.
It may be a popular style for magazine covers, but wearing any kind of eyeshadow below your eye is unflattering. The eyeshadow tends to make your eyes appear tired, droopy and small. The shadow also tends to fall into all those little wrinkles and creases below the eye, enhancing their visibility dramatically.
