A Simple Look for Goths!

By: Martha Patterson

Want to look like a Goth?  Do you already have dark hair, pale skin, and are you maybe wanting a more sultry appearance?

Looking like a Goth is easy with these makeup tips.

First, dark hair helps.  And keep it on the long side - the idea is to look vamp-y!!  If you have a little grey, you can color your hair yourself.  Nice 'N' Easy has one of the lowest-cost hair color products on the market and you can do it yourself, once every six weeks, in less than 3/4 of an hour's time including washing the excess color out in the shower.

Once your hair's all set, it's time to take care of your makeup.  Use a light foundation, in a light-to-neutral shade.  Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Enhancer has the advantage of being a lightly tinted moisturizer that doesn't cover your face like a mask.  It also has Retinol for anti-aging and SPF 20 to protect your skin from the sun.

A red lip pencil affords the best color that doesn't wear off - lipsticks often do wear off, and the lip stains in a tube that are available on the market can dry out your lips because they don't have any oil in them.  With a lip pencil you can line your mouth and fill in the color, then cover with lip balm if you wish, but the color should last most of the day, only needing a touch-up after you've eaten.  Many of the cheaper cosmetic lines (L'Oreal, Maybelline, Revlon) offer such lip pencils.  Buy a sharpener to go with it, so you can create a smooth line when outlining your lips.

A good mascara will emphasize eyes - Lancome's Definicils is a small, compact little mascara that will really blacken lashes easily.  A cheaper brand to try is Maybelline's Great Lash Mascara, used often in the modelling trade.

That's really all you need.  But if you want to take your look a step further, try lining your eyes with a black or grey eye pencil - both above and below the eye.  Revlon's Luxurious Color Eyeliner/Crayon in Brushed Pewter is a good one to try - it's dark grey and not as severe-looking as some black eyeliners.  And stroke your lids with a brown or purple powder shadow - inexpensive ones are L'Oreal's Wear Infinite Eye Shadow Duo or Maybelline's Expertwear Eye Shadow.  Keep the color just to the lid of the eye so as not to look overdone, using the color from the inner corner of the lid all the way to the outer edge.  If you also stroke a bit of shadow along the liner under your eyes it will keep the liner from smudging and create a smoky look.

Looking like a Goth will make you look sexy and as if you belong in the artistic world of the West Village in New York City!  Try it - you might like it!
