Make Your Eyes Pop with Color Contact Lenses

By: Teresa Hall

One quick and striking way to change your look is to wear color contact lenses. Color contact lenses range in type and purpose, therefore suiting any needs you might have. You can buy colored contact lenses with a correction or you can buy color contact lenses with no prescription and maximum fun potential. You can choose colors that intensify your natural eye color or you can change your eye color to something completely different. There are even colored lenses that have fun, theatrical enhancements, such as cat eyes or alien zombie eyes.

Types of tints
There are five types of tints for color contact lenses:

  • Visibility tints have a tiny bit of color so you can see the lens for insertion, cleaning or if you drop it.
  • An enhancement tint is a translucent tint that is used to enhance your current eye color. Enhancement tints are usually most effective for people who have light colored eyes. They can make your blue eyes bluer or your light brown eyes browner.
  • A color tint is a deeper, opaque contact lens that gives you a dramatic color change. If you have dark colored eyes or want a deeply intense color, go for the color tint. Color tints come in a wide variety of color including green, blue, violet, hazel, amethyst and gray.
  • You can also buy color contact lenses with a costume or theatrical tint. These are the fun lenses that are typically used for, well, costumes and theatrics.
  • Using a light filtering contact lens can enhance the yellow of a tennis ball or the white of a baseball, while muting all other colors, giving the sports enthusiast a better "eye" on the ball.

Colored contact lenses can be purchased either as long wearing lenses that are removed and disinfected every night or as disposable color contact lenses that can be thrown away after a week. No matter which type you prefer, you need to visit an eye doctor to get a custom fit and you need to purchase quality lenses to avoid damage to your eye.
