Emo Fashion Trends

Interested in emo fashion?  What you wear, how you style your hair and how you do your makeup can all be done under the umbrella of emo.

The Clothes
Emo clothes typically are tighter fitting than other fashion trends. Pairing a tight pair of jeans with a body-hugging t-shirt or sweater is the way to go. T-shirts generally feature the name of an emo band or are either vintage or faux vintage. Jeans tend to be held up by a studded belt or a belt with a large buckle. Button down vests and shirts coupled with skinny ties are also popular. The most common accessories include wristbands and scarves. Indie clothes’ footwear includes Converse canvas sneakers and skate shoes.

The Hair
Emo hair styles are one of a kind. The traditional look is one that many emo men and women proudly show off: a short, almost pixie cut style that features long bangs. The bangs are straight and typically combed over to cover one eye. Sometimes the hair in the back is spiked up with gel. Other emo-friendly styles include the Emo-hawk. Think of it as a conservative Mohawk–you haven’t fully shaved your head and the spikes are lower than a Mohawk’s. In terms of coloring, most emos dye their hair black. Some streaks of blonde or another color, such as red or purple, are also popular.

The Body Art
Piercings are a popular trend among emos. Nose rings and lip rings are particularly popular. Again, emos don’t take piercings to the extreme of punk rockers, some of whom can be seen with several holes in their face all connected with chains. But a couple facial accessories are the norm for emo.

Another popular facial accessory is makeup –both on the girls and the guys. A trend borrowed from the Goth scene, thick black eyeliner is one of emo’s most popular accessories.
