Emo Hair Color Tips

Achieving emo hair color can be as easy or as complicated as you would like it to be. Many people mistakenly believe that it is more of a process than it is, but the basic emo look is actually pretty simple to adopt.

Basic Black
In most instances, people rocking an emo 'do have colored their hair black. This is the common foundation on which people build their emo hairstyles. If you have naturally raven-hued tresses, you’re in luck. For the rest of us, black hair dye is your first step; coloring your hair black should be simple enough for you to do yourself.

Add Color
While black is the standard hair color, many emo kids choose to accent their midnight manes with bold and unexpected colors. Neons, especially purple and pink, work well with the emo look, but blonde is another popular option. You can try adding random streaks in yourself, or for a more complicated look, go to a hair salon. A stylist there will be able to give you the look you want, such as alternating steaks.

Go Two-Tone
Many emos like to dye hair their manes black and the other a bright color. A popular look, for instance, features bright pink bangs and the rest of the hair black. Another option is to layer your hair, dye the layers underneath and leave the upper layers black—or vice versa.

Faux Emo
For those of you who are too sheepish to go all out with the hair dye, there are still emo-friendly options for you. Clip-on hair or extensions are a great way to add an assortment of color while leaving you the option to quickly change if you don’t look, instead of waiting to let your hair grow out or re-dying.

Try out different colors and find what works for you. Your hair is the best way to let your emo flag fly!
