Edgy Punk Haircuts

By: Rachel Mork

Are you looking for radical punk haircuts? Not satisfied with merely dying your hair pink or spiking it into a Mohawk? Try out these edgy punk hairstyles as you search for the look that is 100 percent you.

Liberty Spikes
Shave both sides of your head, leaving only one strip of hair down the center. Using glue, mega-hold gel or egg whites, form each section of center hair into a stiff spike kind of like that on the statue of liberty.

Modified Mohawk
Instead of spiking the whole Mohawk upwards or fluffing it up, try creating dread locks on your center strip of hair. Dye each dread a different color.

Triple Mohawk
Instead of just the center strip, leave three strips on your head. Shave the rest. Spike, fan or dread the remaining hair.

Asymmetrical Skater Punk
Ask your stylist for an asymmetrical cut that allows you flexibility to spike or tuft the ends. Dye the individual spikes different colors. For example, if you have black hair, bleach the tufts or ends blond, then color half the ends red or blue. Or dye your whole head bleach blond, then add streaks of neon colors.

Beaver Hawk
This is a variation of the Mohawk where you shave both sides of your head, but leave about an inch of hair on the center strip, which should be dyed at least one color.

Women's Long Hair Punk Styles
If you want to keep your hair long, you can still go punk. You'll want to cut some of the layers short or even shave small sections of your head, then get the rest of your long hair cut in uneven layers. Experiment using style gels and hair bands to figure out how you can get your hair to be part up, part down with many unpredictable spikes, tufts and swirls. Use color to accentuate the different sections of your hair.

Women's Punk Bob
Ask your stylist for a bob, but request the bangs to be super short and the line of the bob to hit right at your ears or even higher. Dye your hair an unnatural color like a fiery red or green. Shave the back of your neck and head to keep the lines clean.
