Grow Out Your Eyebrows Without Going Crazy
Eyebrows come in all shapes and sizes—especially since you shape and size them yourself. Trying to transition from super skinny brows to a thicker style can be a hassle if you wish to maintain a clean look. Achieve the hot trend of big brows without struggle or stress by following a few simple guidelines.
Pencil
An eyebrow pencil is your best friend when growing out those little caterpillars above your eyes. If you’re feeling particularly prickly, a pencil can fill in the spaces until your brow stubble becomes full blown hairs. Pick a shade that is slightly lighter than your natural brow color. It will look better against your skin and, since your eyebrows are typically darker than your hair color, it will look more natural.
Gel
A great way to tame unruly brows as they grow in is by using brow gel. These are usually inexpensive, but you can also use regular gel, light hairspray or clear mascara, which you might already own. A gel will not only keep brows in place, it can also be used to strategically brush brows and hold them still to cover hairs growing in.
Tweezers
Have an idea in your head of what you wish your eyebrows to look like. It helps to have a stencil, which they sell at most beauty specialty stores. Pluck the areas around this stencil with a good pair of slanted tweezers as they grow in.
While you don't want to undo the progress you've made growing in your brows, there is a difference between tweezing the arch and keeping your face unibrow-free. A good rule of thumb for how long your eyebrows should be is to take an eyebrow or eyeliner pencil and rest it aligned with the inside corner of your eye, and sloped resting along your nose. Where the pencil lands next to your eyebrow is how far in your brow should extend. To see how far towards your temple your eyebrow should extend, take that pencil and align it with the outside corner of your eye, then tilt it so that it rests just underneath the corner of your nose and your nostril.
How Thick Is Too Thick?
The thickness of your eyebrow is up to you, but popular styles today suggest bigger is better. A good rule of thumb for where the arch of your brow should be is by taking that pencil, resting it along the bottom of your nostril once again, and aligning in with the very center of your eye. The point of your eyebrow where the pencil runs through is typically a good place for the arch, and most likely there is a natural one there anyway.
Exfoliater
Avoid ingrown hairs and red bumps when growing out your eyebrows by using a gentle facial exfoliater. Just as with your legs or bikini line, ingrown hairs can be annoying and even painful, especially when on your face. Avoid these ugly buggers by using a sugar or salt scrub over your eyebrows—just be careful not to get it in your eyes.
Once you grow your brows a little bushy you can head to the spa for a little beauty TLC. Get a wax or threading, but be sure to explain to the aesthetician your intentions of bold brows. Once you get done up professionally, you can pluck any grow-ins yourself.
