Easy Shaving Cream Recipes

These shaving cream recipes are not that much different than homemade soap. Making homemade shaving cream is an easy process that is basic enough for beginners to do.

The most difficult ingredient to find is stearic acid, which is a product found in animal fats and some plants. Stearic acid is a waxy solid substance that is often used in making candles, cosmetics and to harden soaps. Look for it at any candle or soap making section in a large craft and hobby store. In addition to stearic acid, gather canola oil, borax powder and scentless grated soap. If you'd like to add a scent, purchase some of your favorite smelling essential oil. You'll also need a double boiler, a blender and an airtight container.

Shaving Cream Recipe
Ingredients You Will Need:
½ cup stearic acid
4 tablespoons canola oil
2 cups hot water
2 teaspoons borax bowder
4 tablespoons grated soap
Several drops essential oil of your choice

Place stearic acid and canola oil in a double boiler and melt until the liquid is clear. Mix hot water, borax powder, grated soap and essential oil into a medium bowl. Stir until the powder is dissolved, then pour it into a blender. Blend for 1 minute. Pour the melted stearic acid/canola oil mixture into the blender; blend on high until a cream forms, typically about 2 to 3 minutes. Then, scoop the cream into an airtight container and let it cool down. This homemade shaving cream will keep in a cool place for several weeks.

Sunflower Shaving Cream
Many people find that using oil products to shave helps the razor glide better over the skin. It's also a nice way to moisturize the skin and reduce irritation. Homemade shaving cream with oil provides you with a smooth shave.

Sunflower Shaving Cream Recipe
Ingredients You Will Need:
½ cup glycerin soap
1 teaspoon sunflower oil

Melt glycerin soap in the double boiler, then pour in sunflower oil. Pour the mixture into the airtight container and let it cool. When you are ready to shave, just rub a wet shaving brush against the mixture and you'll get a good lather quickly.
