Fresh Takes on Long Bob Hairstyles

By: Julie Knapp

When you think about the classic bob, you probably think of short cropped chin length looks. But did you know this style can be worn in longer, shoulder-brushing forms, too? Think of recent looks worn by Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway and Gwyneth Paltrow. If you want to go shorter, but not too short, try one of these fresh takes on long bob hairstyles.

Blunt Cut
The simplest of all the long bob hairstyles, this haircut is just a straight style without layers, angles or any fancy variations. Ask your stylist to keep your length around the shoulders. Like shorter versions, this style often works as a wash and go option, though if you want to dress it up you could add curls or waves.

Bangs
If you want to make your long bob hairstyle your own, try adding bangs. Since bangs are trendy now, too, this is one way to keep your look fresh. Try blunt cut straight bangs across your entire forehead for a prim and polished look or for something more free form, try longer fringed or side-swept bangs.

Layered
Adding layers will give long bobs more movement and style. Face framing layers can be very flattering while more layers throughout can add volume and life to a shorter style.

Angled
Like layers, angular cuts give long bob hairstyles extra fullness and add oomph to a simple style. The angles could make the hair in front longer than that in back or could lead to side-swept bangs or a more asymmetrical look.
