Curly Hair Styles

If you've got a head full of curls, finding the right style can be tricky. Here are a few of the best curly hair styles that help keep your locks gorgeous and under control.

Curly hair has a reputation for being unpredictable when it comes to haircuts, so if you can find an expert curl cutter, you will be in good hands.

The art of layering curly hair is one of the most important factors in ending up with a good style. Layers add body and movement to curly hair, but if it's not done just right, your hair won't look right either. No layers at all will weigh down your hair, leading to a triangle-head of flat hair on top and a mound of poofy curls at the bottom. But too many short layers can also make your hair look poofy. Long layers are best.

When you decide on a hair cut, you should base your style on the curliness of your hair. If you have super curly hair, it'll look best either very very short or long enough to fall below your shoulders. Keep in mind that in-between styles could end up looking awkward and, again, poofy. However, if your hair only has a bit of a wave, your best bet is to keep it to your shoulders or longer in order to enhance your natural texture. For medium curls, a medium length works best.

Curly hair also looks great with a few highlights. If you have a lot of curls around your face for example, you might be surprised what a few lighter pieces near your temples and cheeks can do to open up your features.
