Short Curly Hair Styles

By: Aysha Schurman

Short curly hair styles can be a dangerous territory to tread. With one wrong cut, you can end up with hair that looks like a clown's wig. If the results are the wrong style, you can end up with hair that looks like a giant cotton ball. Either way, if you don't know what you want and what looks good, you can end up with a mess.

Layering is usually the best way to help control a frizzy mane. Be reducing the amount of curls, you can tame their shape. You also tend to get a much better overall shape with a layered cut than a straight cut. Another helpful hint for dealing with wild locks is to use the right curly hair care products. A little gel can keep those curls in spirals, or a little smoothing serum can help prevent frizz.

Wild Bob
A wild bob is one of the easiest curly hair styles to maintain. Since you want your curls to be boisterous and wild anyway, you don't have to spend as much time fretting over your hair. Cut your hair just above the bottom of your ear. Get a tiny amount of layering in the front to help clear your cheek and forehead area a little. Now just wash, scrunch, spray and go.

Backswept Bob
If you need a curly hairstyle that looks sharp and professional, try a backswept bob. Cut your hair at an angle, slightly shorter in front and longer in the back. The curls at the front of your face should end at the middle of your ears. The curls at the back of your head should end at the base of your neck. Get some light layering done to help keep the top hair flat. Use gel or smoothing serum to sweep your curls back from your face.

Fringe Bob
A fringe bob is a fantastic style if your particular face-shape looks better with bangs. Cut your hair very short, anywhere from the top to middle of your ear. You want the cut straight across to begin with. Now take the hair around your entire face and fringe cut it until some loose and shaggy bangs begin to form. Go around the rest of the head and add some layering to give the overall shape extra body.
