Dye Your Hair Naturally

People who have extremely fine hair that breaks and tangles easily need to be very careful what is used on their hair. Many types of hair color can leave hair feeling brittle and straw-like. There are several different types of herbs that make your hair healthier while giving it a brown color. Rosemary, sage and thyme make a good combination for coloring brown hair and making it feel healthy. The recipe is very simple.

Herbal Hair Dye Shampoo
6 cups water
2 tablespoons rosemary
2 tablespoons sage
2 tablespoons thyme
1/2 bar Ivory or Jergen's Pure and Natural soap

  1. Use a cheese grater to shred the bar of soap. If a whole bar of soap is shredded, put all of the soap shreds into a gallon sized plastic zip lock bag, and save them for the next batch of shampoo that is made. Only half of the bar of soap will be used to make the shampoo.
  2. Put 6 cups of water into a pot and add 2 tablespoons of rosemary, 2 tablespoons of sage and 2 tablespoons of thyme. Bring the water to a full boil, and let it cook for 6 to 10 minutes. Allow the water to steep for several hours before finishing the shampoo. It is better to prepare the herbal tea the night before making the shampoo. Strain the water, and re-heat the tea. Pour the water into a large bowl, and stir in the shredded soap. Stir the soap in the bowl until the soap dissolves. It will look like it is too thin, but remember that the shampoo will thicken as it cools. Pour the shampoo into a plastic bottle after it cools. Seal the bottle and use just like any other shampoo.

Don't get discouraged if you don't see a change in your hair color immediately. It takes about three weeks for the dye to work on your hair. Once you get into a habit of shampooing your hair with the herbal hair dye shampoo, it will make your hair healthier and nicely colored.
