Home Remedy for Hair Loss

By: Rachel Mork

If you are experiencing hair loss, you will want to see your doctor to determine the cause of your situation and whether a home remedy for hair loss might be possible. In most cases, your doctor will determine the cause to be male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness, a condition that is both hereditary and impossible to completely reverse.  However, your doctor may determine that your hair loss is related to a medication you are taking, hormonal changes or stress. In any case, the following suggestions are considered the best hair loss solutions.

Healthy diet
One of the simplest and healthiest solutions for hair loss is to improve your diet. Make sure you eat plenty of lean protein, such as eggs, poultry and lean cuts of meat so you get enough protein and fatty acids. Make sure your calorie intake is appropriate and not too low - rapid weight loss can also result in rapid hair loss.

Stress management
Whether you take up yoga or take time to relax with a good book, you need to make sure you are managing the stress in your life. High stress can translate into high hair loss, so make sure you are taking care of you.

Saw palmetto
Try a supplemental dose of saw palmetto, an herbal supplement known to help prevent prostate cancer and to enhance hair growth.

Vitamins

At the very least, take a daily multivitamin containing iron, B vitamins, especially biotin; 30-50 mg of zinc a day; copper; and omega 3 fatty acids.  If you can, take a supplementary dose of 700 mg of Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) each day.

Rogaine
As far as topical hair loss solution products go, Rogaine is still king. This product is massaged into the scalp daily and considered one of the best hair loss solutions. While it will not reliably stimulate new growth of hair in all users, it is generally reliable at preventing additional hair loss.

Propecia
Propecia is a medication for men only that is taken internally to combat male pattern baldness. It is reported to be quite successful in both re-growing hair and preventing hair loss, but is also reported to cause sexual impotency side effects for many men. It is dangerous for pregnant women and is not intended for women or children at all.

Provillus
This combination of vitamins and minerals is taken internally to promote healthy hair growth and prevent the hair follicles from entering the resting stage where no more hair strands are produced.
