Body Wave Perm At Home

By: Barbara Fitzgerald-Malone

There are several at-home permanent wave products available for women. Unfortunately, most of these are expensive, and many women are not happy with the results. That is why most women have their favorite hairdresser perm their hair for them.

During the depression, women found an easy and inexpensive way to curl their hair like the professionals. All they needed was bobby pins and hair spray. This method takes time and patience, but the results are amazing.
After shampooing your hair, taking approximately a one-half inch strand of hair in your fingers, twirl it all the way up to your head, and secure it with a bobby pin. Do this until you have secured every portion of your hair with a bobby pin.

If you have long hair, this may take considerably more time than those with short hair. The best time to do this is in the evening. You should leave the pins in your hair until morning. If your hair is still damp, blow-dry it before taking the bobby pins out. Once you remove the bobby pins, you will find that you have a head full of tiny curls. The next step will depend on your hair type, and the type of curl you want.

If the little kinky curls are what you want, simply shake your head a few times to unwind the girls downward, and leave it go without brushing or combing. If a body wave is what you want, slide your fingers gently through the curls until you reach the desired curl.

Additionally, if you have hair that curls easily, you could simply use a fine comb, and gently glide it through the curly strands. For those with the hard-to-curl type of hair, you may need to use either the blow dryer or curling iron to strengthen the curl, and then use hair spray to keep the curls in place.

Unlike the body wave and permanent wave kits you can buy in the store or the ones you get at the beauty salon, there are no chemicals involved in the process. Chemicals used in permanent waves and body waves, are harsh on your scalp, and can permanently damage your hair. Economical, safe, and best of all, controlled completely by you, using bobby pins to curl your hair is the best solution.

Different types of perms can yield different results, so you want to be sure you know which option is right well before you settle into the salon chair.

Not all of us have hair that will hold a curl. For example, my hair is long, fine and straight with a few natural waves. I have had many perms, professional and home perms. None of them lasted very long. I did everything right.

Perming your hair at home is not as easy as some people think. There is a lot involved in this than just applying a perm solution and you think you will have a great curl. You have to remember you are applying a chemical to your hair and have to think about what type of curl you want to achieve before doing this or you will end up with a head of frizz and no curl.
