Short Scene Hair Styles

By: Vickie Ferguson

The scene look offers many variations in hair length, from short scene hair looks to very long. For short scene hair, scenesters often turn to styles cropped very close to the scalp, although some do like to branch out into a shaggy look in which hair is longer on the sides than on the back.

When creating a scene hair style, a razor is your best friend. Hair is often shaven at the side and back of the head, while longer layers are often created through the use of razor cuts. The razor creates a choppy layer look that plays in well with the dramatically shaggy scene look.

The use of spikes is prevalent in many of the short scene hairstyles. While long hairstyles use the spike technique to create frayed or tapered points throughout the layers of the hair, the shorter hairstyles show off the spikes to a much better advantage.

The spiked look has three basic options. The first option take a blunt approach, with hair in a particular section - sides, back or bangs - cut to the same length to create a long smooth look. The second option is the shaggy cut, in which hair tips are razor cut to create uneven or frayed spikes. This gives the style an abstract appeal. The third style option has layered spikes throughout the hairstyle in different lengths. The spikes can lie flat against the head and face or with the use of hair wax and hairspray to make them rigid, stand out away from the head

Bangs are a big part of the short scene hair style. Either cut a thick, blunt set of bangs or take the unkempt approach by unevenly cutting a fringe.

Using multiple colors, either very bright or deep, rich tones, will accentuate the hairstyle. To achieve the full, out of control or messy look, tease the hair extensively and use hairspray to hold the style in place.
