Razor Short Haircuts

If you want to try one of the razor short haircuts, you need to make sure your hair type and texture will support this type of cut. A razor short haircut is cut using a straight razor instead of scissors. If you have curly hair, fine hair or frizzy hair, this type of fashion haircut will not work for you. If you are not sure whether this cut is right for your hair, get the opinion of at least three different salons; some salons will tell you something is fine, just so they get the business.

Razor Cut Basics
Using a straight razor instead of scissors gives your hair a textured look. Your hair should be short or medium length to work with a razor cut. A razor cut also works well on hair that is medium thick and longer. The hair is tapered with a three-inch straight blade, rather than with scissors.

A razor cut should be done while the hair is damp, so that it is more manageable. You can also remove bulkiness from thick hair with a razor. Even though these cuts reduce bulkiness, they add volume. Razor cuts can be used to blunt the ends of your hair, to thin hair out to make it manageable and to add shape and texture to your hair.

You do want to be careful with razor cuts. Using a razor is not healthy for your hair, because it thins the hair and could make your hair frizzy. It's a good idea to vary razor cuts with other styles, giving your hair a chance to return to its full thickness before getting it razored again.

Find an Experienced Stylist
If you want a razor cut, find a friend who has a great-looking razor cut and visit that person's hairstylist. Only go in for a consultation, to see the experience level of the salon and to make sure the hairstylist knows what type of cut you want. Be certain the stylist can provide the type of cut you want to your satisfaction.

Let the hairstylist know you will be back for the cut. This gives you the opportunity to check a few salons and pick the one that will give you the best cut. Razor cuts take a long time to grow back, and if they're not done well they can be a nightmare.
