Types of Eczema

Eczema can be defined in a large range as it is can be over looked as just dry skin, but it can change into something far worse. If you are trying to figure out if you have eczema here are some common characteristics red rash, skin swelling, itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, cracking, oozing, or bleeding of the skin then chances are that you have eczema. Someone that has eczema will normal notice that it is in the folds of the body. These symptoms are not a one time thing though; you will seem to have reoccurring cases. The worst time for someone that has eczema is during the winter months, since most people have problems with dry skin during this time, it is worse for someone that has eczema. Eczema is not just a case of dry skin instead there are many forms of eczema.

The Different Forms Of Eczema

Common Forms Of Eczema

Atopic Eczema- This form of eczema is believed to be inherited through family members who also have problems with allergies like Asthma. This form of eczema can be found on the neck, scalp, behind jointed areas, and on the buttock. This can be confused with the rash that you can get when you eat something that you are allergic to. This form of eczema needs to be looked at closely by doctors so that is not confused with an allergic reaction to something and is treated properly.

Contact Dermatitis- This type of skin irritant can be caused two ways. There is the allergic; this can be found for coming into contact with things like poison ivy or nickel. The second way to contact this type of dermatitis is an irritant, this can be defined best by coming into things like laundry detergents and soaps that seem to be hard on your skin, but they can be an irritant to the skin. This is one of the most common forms of eczema out of the two, but the only way to cure this form is to remove the irritants from your home.

Xerotic eczema- This is a serious case of dry skin. This is the form of eczema that is seen most often during the winter months. It is a drying of the skin that eventually turns cracked and can be mainly be found on the truck of the body and well as the limbs. This if not treated properly can turned into open sores and become very painful.

Seborrhoeic dermatitis- This form of eczema can be defined as a flaking of the skin. This is known as cradle cap in infants. This form of eczema is harmless all except for the cases of it in young infants which could be a lack of biotin in a young child, but not worry it is curable. On adults this form of eczema is normally found on the upper half of the body, but sometimes can be found on the trunk.

Less Common Forms Of Eczema

Dyshidrosis – This form of eczema can be commonly found on the hands that are accompanied by itching of the skin. This form is of eczema seems to be worse during the summer months.

Discoid eczema- This form of eczema can disappear and reappear during the winter months. I can be characterized by red sores found mostly on the legs. No one is quite sure of the cause of this eczema.

Venous eczema- This form of eczema that can be found in people that have poor circulation and can be found mainly around the ankles. This form of eczema is commonly found in people that are over the age of 50.The characteristics of this form of eczema redness, scaling, itching, and darkening of the skin. People that have this form of eczema have a high chance of getting leg Ulcers.

Dermatitis herpetiformis – this form of eczema can be tied into celiac disease and can be put into remission with the proper diet. The characteristic of this form of eczema are an itchy rash on the arms, thighs, knees, and back.

Neurodermatitis – this form of eczema only occurs with the itching or rubbing of a thickened eczema patch. The only cure for this is a change in behavior and to keep away from scratching and rubbing the affected area.

Autoeczematization- This form of eczema is a result of fungi, bacteria, parasites, or virus. This form of eczema can be cured if you remove the infected items that contained these items from the home. The characteristics of this eczema seem to vary depending on what you were infected with. The most common characteristic is that it does not show up in the infected area, but further away on other parts of your body.

What To Do If You Have Eczema
This is something that you need to see your dermatologist right away, before it gets worse. The dermatologist can go over different methods to treat and cure some forms of eczema. As stated above some forms of eczema's do not have a cure, but there are some things that you can do to suppress the symptoms. You might have to change how you eat, or they might recommend not using any form of soap that is harsh on the skin.
