Soothing Itchy Rashes

There are few skin ailments as subtly annoying as itchy rashes. They drive you crazy if you scratch them or if you leave them alone. The constant itching wears down your patience and wears down your skin. Fortunately, there are many different ways you can soothe itchy skin.

Moisturizers
Moisturizing can help soothe a rash and prevent itchy skin in the future. Lotions usually do little to stop the immediate itch, and can sometimes even make it worse. However, using lotion is great preventative care.

Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a wonderful natural moisturizer that helps create a protective barrier over itchy skin. Though used more for burns than it is for rashes, it can still be an effective way to help soothe itching. It's also great for preventing dry skin that will only make the rash, and itching, worse.

Baking Soda
Baking soda is perfect for creating a paste to stop the itch on a small rash. Mix a few drops of water into a tablespoon of baking soda and mix. Apply the paste to the affected area to help prove immediate relief from itching or stinging skin. The paste can get a little messy, so you may want to place a bandage over the area to prevent the paste from flaking off as it dries.

Oatmeal
Taking an oatmeal bath is an old fashioned way of soothing itchy skin, at it still works. Just fill the bathtub with cool or warm water and mix in one or two cups of rolled oats. Soaking in the mixture will help soothe your skin and take away some of the itch.

Topical Creams
If your rash is bad enough, your doctor may want you to use a topical cream to help heal the problem. Even if you don't see a doctor, there are many over the counter creams that are made specifically to help alleviate itchy skin.
