Do you know how to prevent skin cancer? If you don't then pay attention to these important health tips.  Did you know that 65%-95% of melanomas are caused by ultra violet light? The Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, making it very important to protect your skin.  Skin cancer happens as a result of sun damage so it is important to protect your skin by using sunscreen every day, especially if you plan to be in the sun for extended periods of time.  There are many products now that include sunscreen, such as make up with an SPF and moisturizers that include sunscreen.  You can also buy clothing with SPF's in the fabric, to protect your skin.  Hats and umbrellas also shade your face.  These products can be useful in the prevention of skin cancer. Limit your exposure to bright sunlight and be careful to wear sunscreen even on cloudy days, as cloudy weather reflects UV rays.

You can also protect your skin and prevent skin cancer by the food you eat.  Did you know that the lycopene in tomatoes actually acts as a natural sunscreen for your skin? That means that if you eat tomato sauce on pastas, pizzas, and other Italian dishes, your skin will benefit.  In order for lycopene to be absorbed it must be ingested with a healthy fat such as olive oil.  You can also prevent skin cancer by drinking green tea.  Research has proven that the EGCG polyphenols found in green tea protect skin from sun damage.  Many skincare professionals believe that drinking green tea will reduce your risk of getting skin cancer because the antioxidants in green tea protect against tumor formation.  Last of all, you need to know if you have a risk of getting skin cancer.  Do you have a family history of skin cancer? Do you have a fair complexion? If you do then you should get regular skin cancer screenings.
