Serious Skin Care for Teenagers

By: Aysha Schurman

Most teenagers need some serious skin care help during those hormonal years. It's nothing to be ashamed about - it's just one of those facts of life. But before you go spending hundreds of dollars on special skin care systems, try a few basic tips for skin care. You may find that being a little more diligent about your skin can save you embarrassment and money.

Wash Up
Wash your face two times a day - no more, no less. You want to wash your face just enough to keep it clean, but not so much that you dry it out and cause an overproduction of oils. Wash your face well once in the morning and once at night, without fail, to really see your skin improve in overall health.

Use the Right Soap
Do not use regular soap to wash your face, it's much too drying and can clog up pores. Use a gentle facial soap specific to your needs. For example, if you have acne, try acne control soap. Stay away from harsh, scrubbing soaps as they tend to just irritate skin.

Hands Off Zits
Never pick or pop a zit, it can cause the infection to go deeper and become even worse, increasing the swelling and redness. Picking or popping acne can also result in ugly scarring.

Hydrate
Drink plenty of water to help cleanse your skin from the inside out. Keeping well hydrated not only gives your skin a healthy glow, it helps flush toxins out of your system. Drinking a full, 64 ounces of water a day can even help make an acne outbreak slightly less severe.

Moisturize
Use some moisturizer to help repair your skin and prevent wrinkles. This is important for both males and females. By keeping your skin moisturized with an oil-free hydrating product, you keep it healthier and more able to repair itself.

Seek a Specialist
Go to a dermatologist if you acne is bad enough to need serious skin care. They will be able to prescribe the proper medication to help dry out your skin and clear up the infections. Do not try homemade remedies, such as placing toothpaste on the acne, as they can lead to massive scarring.
