By the time your day is over, your face is covered in makeup, oil and pollutants. So, instead of simply splashing a little water on it before you go to bed, take the time to clean it properly. Follow these steps for washing your face, and you'll remove all the stuff that damages your skin and causes breakouts.
If you have long hair, pull it up and away from your face. First, remove your eye makeup if you're wearing any. Use a cotton ball with a bit of eye makeup remover to cleanse the area from the undereye to the brow. If you use waterproof or long-wearing mascara, you may need to try a specially formulated remover or baby oil to eliminate all traces.
Wash your face and neck with lukewarm water and a facial cleansing cream or lotion that is soap-free, so it is less likely to dry your skin. Massage the product lightly into your skin in an upward motion. Once or twice a week, you'll want to exfoliate your skin with a gentle scrub in place of your daily wash for a deeper cleanse. This extra step will remove dead skin cells and in turn brighten your complexion. Splash lukewarm water on your face to clear away all of the cleanser, and use a soft towel to pat your skin dry.
To remove the final traces of dirt and oil, use a toner. Put a few drops on a cotton ball and gently wipe over your skin starting with your cheeks, chin and nose and ending with your forehead. You can skip this step, especially if you have dry skin, or include it in your routine only occasionally.
