Recipe for Aromatherapy Homemade Lotion

Homemade lotion is a nice alternative to relying on your local beauty supply shop. A homemade product gives you the ability to control all of the ingredients that will go into it, essentially giving you exactly what you want. You can select the best oil for your skin type, your favorite scent, the texture of the cream and so on, giving you a truly individualized custom product that is very affordable.

If you enjoy reaping the rewards of aromatherapy or the practice of using essential plant oils, then you should consider adding essential oils to your homemade lotion. Consider incorporating lavender to help you relax or chamomile to help relieve tension. There are hundreds of essential oils to choose from; you may want to try combining oils for extra benefit.

To make lotion, you will need to combine an oil base with a water base, binding the two together with an emulsifier. Coconut oil works great to soften skin but is not recommended for people with oily skin, as it is high in fat and oily. Almond oil is lightweight and non-greasy with a nice light, nutty scent that is very natural. If you can't find these oils, you can simply use vegetable oil from your pantry. If you are planning to add essential oils to your lotion, it is best to select an oil base that has very little fragrance of its own, as you don't want to compete with the oil scent.
