The Best Homemade Facial Masks

By: Lisa Bower

Some of the best facial masks aren't found at the drugstore--they're found in your kitchen. If you want to treat yourself regularly but don't want to pay for a spa or salon to do it, consider making your own facial masks.

A milk mask is incredibly easy to make. All you have to do is grab some cotton wool and wet it with milk. Following this, you need to rub the milk onto your face, let it dry, and then wash it off!

An egg mask uses egg whites and will tighten your skin.. Basically, the more eggs you use, the thicker the mask. You will only need the egg whites for the mask: place them on your face and let dry for 15 minutes.

If you have oily skin, then you should consider using an oatmeal mask.  To make this, mix together a teaspoon of honey with one egg yolk. Stir in oatmeal slowly; you know you have stirred in enough once you have a soft paste. You need to use this mask as soon as it is made: smooth it on and let dry for 15 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.

Another great mask that can be made at home revolves around banana. Mash 1/4 of a ripe banana until it is creamy. Follow this by spreading the banana on the face and allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Rinse first with lukewarm water, then with cold water. This should give your skin a natural glow.

If you have blackheads, a lemon juice mask is sure to help. Take lemon juice and layer the face with it. Allow to sit for 10 minutes and then place cucumber slices on the offending blackheads. In no time at all, your face will be blemish free!

If your skin is acne prone, consider the following apple-based mask. Mix together a grated medium sized apple with six tablespoons of warmed honey. Make sure you have already cleaned your face and then apply the mask to the face. Keep mask on for 15 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.
