Choosing a Men's Wallet

By: Julie Knapp

A wallet is an accessory you'll use every single day, so it is important to choose one that fits both your style and function needs. Before you start shopping, think about what you like to carry in your wallet, as well as how big or small a wallet you like to carry.

First, decide which style of wallet you prefer. Bi-fold and tri-fold wallets are the most common; as their names insinuate, they fold either in half or thirds, giving ample room for credit and business cards while leaving enough space for unfolded bills. Tri-folds have room for more items, but bi-folds are less likely to create a big bulge in your back pocket.

If you only carry a few cards or bills around, you could try a slim wallet, a thin leather option with two or three pockets, or a money clip wallet, which has a magnetic closure and can hold a couple of credit cards and a few bills. If you like to carry everything, including a pen and checkbook, take a look at travel or organizer wallets.

Next, look out for additional features. If you are a father, you might want a spot for a photo of your child. If you're the type that likes to keep your wallet attached at all times, choose one that has a chain. Can't stand change in your pocket? Choose a wallet with a snap-shut or zippered change pocket.

Finally, consider all the fabric and leather options. For men who prefer luxury goods or simply don't like shopping for wallets very often, a designer wallet is a good choice. It'll be made of high-quality leather that'll last. For active guys, a nylon or plastic waterproof case is a unique solution.
