How to Make Baked Apples

When making baked apple recipes, we probably all have our favorites. Some like caramel added to the mix, some like to make cinnamon baked apples, some like to add coconut and some like chocolate on theirs. The recipe below mixes many favorite flavors, including chocolate, dried cherries, coconut, nuts, raisins and cinnamon.

Baked Apples With Cherries and Chocolate
Ingredients You Will Need:
2 cups milk
3 whole cloves
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 tablespoon lemon juice
¼ cup syrup
6 apples
½ cup raisins
½ cup pecans, chopped
½ cup dried cherries
½ cup chocolate chips
½ cup coconut
Vanilla ice cream
Caramel sauce

Use a baking dish large enough to accommodate the apples side-by-side, but make sure the dish is not overly large, or the sauce will be spread too thinly. Use small- to medium-sized apples.

Mix the milk, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, lemon juice and syrup in a bowl. Once it has been combined, pour it into the bottom of the baking dish, and spread evenly.

Wash and core the apples, and place them into the baking dish, with the hole facing up.

Combine the raisins, pecans, cherries, chocolate chips and coconut in a small bowl. Dust with flour, and mix again. Spoon the raisin mixture into the apple cores, and sprinkle the remainder into the baking pan.

Cover with tin foil, and bake for one hour in an oven that has been preheated to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. When the apples are done, take the foil off the pan, and place each apple into a separate dish. Add one scoop of vanilla ice cream, and pour the caramel over the top.

Tips: If you have shortbread cookies, they can be spread in the sauce around the apples. The shortbread will offer a taste of crust and make the baked apple and ice cream taste like a delicious piece of caramel apple pie a la mode.
