Essential Candy Making Supplies

To prepare sweet treats, you'll need candy making supplies. For instance, if you're making chocolates, you'll probably need molds. But, if you're making brittles, molds would not be necessary. Candy bars can be made with molds or forms, but they also can be made in a pan and then cut into bars or slices.

Because sugar is the main ingredient in most candy, when making just about every type of candy, except for sugar-free, you'll need some type of sugar on hand. Some recipes call for white sugar, some for brown sugar, some for maple syrup, molasses or corn syrup and some for a combination of all three.

When making chocolate, you'll want to keep several different types and sizes of molds on hand. Chocolate bars come in a variety of sizes, and so should your candy bar molds. Individual molds for bite-size candies also come in handy. Because chocolate will easily melt, it's wise to keep wrappers on hand, as well as small boxes, for storing the candy. Empty checkbook boxes are the perfect size for chocolate candies. For the perfect gift-wrapped candy box, wrap a checkbook box in a plain color or in paper that has a photo on it, and add a ribbon.

Certain containers, pots, pans and molds will be necessary to make candy, as will certain ingredients. Below is a beginner's list of essential candy making supplies.

Candy making supplies should be stored in a cool place where candy molds will not get direct sunlight and where sugars and candy buttons will not melt or harden. Keep equipment such as candy thermometers, candy wrappers and molds in airtight plastic containers, where they will be free from dust and other debris.
