This butter toffee peanuts recipe can be made plain or you can infuse the mixture with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg or even jalapeno peppers to give individual batches a variety of flavors. The best butter toffee nuts, however, are those that are made with butter toffee recipes that are so buttery-regardless of how much additional ingredients are added to the mix-they almost melt in your mouth.
Butter Toffee Peanuts Recipe
Ingredients You Will Need:
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter
3 tablespoons water
3 cups whole blanched peanuts
Butter a cookie sheet and set aside.
Use a deep, heavy-bottomed saucepan to heat the sugar, butter and water. Stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, bring the mixture to 300 degrees. The temperature will rise sharply as the water is boiled off, so make sure you're using a candy thermometer. Once the sauce has reached the correct temperature, set your spoon down and do not stir. Remove the mixture from the heat immediately and dump in the nuts.
When the nuts are thoroughly coated, dump them onto the buttered cookie sheet. Separate the nuts so that they are not touching one another. When they have cooled, store them in airtight containers.
Any type of nut can be used in this recipe, but for best results, don't deviate from the measurements noted in the recipe. For a more robust nut taste, roast the nuts in the oven for a few minutes over low heat. When the nuts turn a golden brown, remove them from the oven and cool. Butter toffee nuts can be stored in plastic bags or foil-lined tins for later use and are perfect when added to a gift basket.
Nut Allergies
When gifting anyone with a gift that includes tree nuts-especially children-make sure the recipient doesn't have a nut allergy. While children are most susceptible to tree nut allergies, peanut allergies are also prevalent in all age groups.
