Best Pina Colada Recipe

Tropical fruity drinks always remind people of summer. Fun times, warm weather, sunshine and time spent outside. If you're lucky, that even includes some fun times playing at the beach and wading in the ocean. For some adult fun, a really nice way to cool off is with a frosty beverage. A fruity frozen treat is a good way to beat the chill of winter and make it feel like summer despite the cold air and in some place, sleet, ice and snow. Okay, maybe not, but who doesn't love a good drink now and then? One of the great things about cocktails is that with a few tweaks here and there, you can make the same drink several different ways for a different taste. Here are a few recipes for fantastic Pina Coladas.

Classic Frozen Pina Colada

You'll need the following:

3 oz light rum
4 oz coconut cream
2 oz pineapple juice
2 tbs pineapple chunks
2 cup crushed ice
2 maraschino cherries, for garnish
2 pineapple slices, for garnish

Directions:

Add crushed ice to a blender. Then pour rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice and pineapple chunks into the blender. Blend until the concoction is smooth. Then, just pour it into a tall glass. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a maraschino cherry then serve!

Pina Colada On The Rocks

3 oz light rum
3 tablespoons coconut flavored liqueur
1 1/2 cups of pineapple juice
1 tbs lime juice
2 tbs pineapple chunks
1 cup ice
2 maraschino cherries, for garnish
2 pineapple slices, for garnish

Directions:

In a cocktail shaker, add ice and then top with all the ingredients listed. Shake well to get the drink well mixed. You can strain this leaving the ice in the shaker but there's no need to. Just pour the cocktail into a tall glass, garnish with a slice of pineapple and a maraschino cherry and then you're ready to serve.

Island Pina Colada

You'll need the following:

3 oz light rum
2 oz dark rum
3 oz coco lopez coconut cream (comes in a can)
2 oz double cream or whipping cream
6 oz pineapple juice
1/8 tsp Angostura bitters
2 maraschino cherries, for garnish
2 pineapple slices, for garnish

Directions:

Pour all of the ingredients into a blender and blend for 15 seconds with or without ice. (That's up to you whether you want it froze or not. If you want it frozen, use 1 cup ice.) If you add ice, you may need to blend longer until the drink mixture is smooth or to an appealing texture for you. Once you have it to the desired consistency, pour the drink into a large glass and garnish with pineapple and cherry.

Maybe you can't drink alcohol. Maybe you want to serve the kiddos a fruity, yummy frozen treat. Whatever the reason, a non-alcoholic pina colada can be a super tasty treat, any time of the year for any occasion.

Non-Alcoholic Pina Coladas

You'll need the following:

16 oz pineapple juice
4 oz coconut cream
2 cup crushed ice
2 tbs pineapple chunks (optional)
2 maraschino cherries, for garnish
2 pineapple slices, for garnish

Directions:

Put the crushed ice in a blender. Add in the pineapple juice, coconut cream and pineapple chunks. Blend until the mixture is smooth or blend until it's the desired consistency. Pour into glasses and then garnish with cherry and pineapple.

For parties or just for fun, you could serve any of these drinks in a coconut shell or find some coconut shapes cups. Mini umbrellas or twisty drinking straws are also a fun, festive way to dress up these drinks.

Don't be afraid to experiment with different types of rum. Most recipes do call for light rum but don't be afraid to try dark rum! It works out quite well. Also, don't be afraid to add a splash or two of coconut milk for a thinner drink or a little more coconut flavor. Instead of pineapple slices to garnish, you can sprinkle pineapple chunks on top of the drink just before serving.

The key to the perfect cocktail is to have fun and be creative with it. Also, always remember to drink responsibly and never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol. Enjoy!
