To make this coffee, you will need a Vietnamese filter, which is a small coffee pot that looks like a hat. You use this filter by placing it on top of a mug or coffee cup. Inside the filter there is a space for coffee and hot water. This is all you need to make the most basic Vietnamese coffee - a Vietnamese coffee press is not required. You will also need coffee and condensed milk. The amount you use is up to you and your preferences. The more milk, the more sweet the coffee will be. The more coffee, the stronger the drink will be. Traditionally, Vietnamese coffee is made with chicory. However, you can use any coffee you like. The kind of coffee you use is up to you and your taste bud. The good thing about using condensed milk is that you do not have to add sugar to it: it already contains it.
Directions:
Place 1/3 inch of condensed milk into a coffee cup. You may want to use a clear or glass cup so that you can watch the coffee as it is made.
Next, unscrew the filter's top screen so you can add 3 to 4 teaspoons of coffee. Replace the screen and tighten until it is snug.

If it flows through all at once, then you need to tighten the filter some more to reach the desired effects of Vietnamese coffee.
You want the water to drop through. It should take you about 4 1/2 to 5 minutes for the water to completely filter.
Once the dripping has stopped, remove the filter and set it aside. You can stir up the contents or you can drink slowly so that the condensed milk is what you taste last.
