If you are trying to improve your calcium intake and want to create a healthy treat for any time of the day, try preparing this calcium cooler. This simple fruit smoothie recipe includes yogurt, orange juice, pineapple and sorbet. You can supplement any of the ingredients for your favorite fruits like bananas, peaches or strawberries.
Ingredients You Will Need:
8 ounces nonfat vanilla yogurt
8 ounces lemon sorbet or sherbet
4 ounces canned pineapple tidbits, drained
4 ounces calcium fortified orange juice
1 teaspoon orange zest
Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth. Serve chilled and garnished with a pineapple or orange wedge
Healthy smoothies did not become popular until the mid-60s, when there was a rekindling of macrobiotic vegetarianism. Though there has been resurgence in the popularity of the smoothie in the past few years, smoothies have been around since the 1930s, when health food stores on the west coast began selling pureed fruit drinks. |
When I think about spring and summer, I think of big, red, juicy strawberries and nice cold drinks on those warm, breezy days. By taking out the ice cream and using low-fat vanilla yogurt, this cold smoothie is not only refreshing, but healthy. |
Everyone loves smoothies. Tropical smoothies are a great way to escape the plain sweet taste of most smoothies, and the best way to keep your cool on a hot summer day. |
One of my favorite things about Spring and Summer is the availability of fresh fruits. All sorts of fruits from melons to berries are ripe for the picking and go great in many recipes. |
