Spiced Apple Butter Recipe

What could be better on a thick slab of homemade bread than warm homemade apple butter? Nothing says fall better than this delicious treat. Why try out an apple butter recipe? It's a little bit more time consuming than many canning projects, but worth every minute. You are sure to agree as soon as you take the first bite of your home canned apple butter recipe.

Ingredients You Will Need:
6 apples, sliced
1 cup apple cider
2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½  teaspoon ground allspice
½ teaspoon ground cloves

Place apples and cider in pot over medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until mixture comes to a boil. Lower heat and simmer, stirring frequently, for about a half hour. Stir in spices.

Continue simmering and stirring for another half hour, or until apple slices have disintegrated and butter is thick. Remove from heat.

You can use your crockpot to simmer the apple butter, but be sure to leave the lid off and keep on a low setting.
Using a wide mouthed, stainless steel funnel, fill the hot mixture into sterile half-pint or pint jars, leaving ¼  inch headspace or transfer to four one cup containers. Store in the fridge.
