The key to any classic beef lasagna recipe is the cheese. Don't be afraid to be generous and even throw in an extra handful here and there to have the lasagna bubbling with cheese when it's ready to be served to your guests.
Beef Lasagna Recipe
Ingredients You Will Need:
1 pound ground beef
½ onion, chopped
½ large green pepper, chopped
1 can tomato sauce
½ can stewed tomatoes
½ can tomato paste
1 pound ricotta cheese
1 ½ pounds mozzarella cheese
1 garlic clove, minced
Pinch parsley, oregano, Italian seasoning
In a large saucepan, add a dab of olive oil and brown the meat along with the onions, garlic and green peppers. Cook for about ten minutes or until fully brown. Add the tomatoes and tomato paste and stir over medium heat. Add in your spices, including the salt, pepper, oregano, Italian seasonings and a pinch of garlic salt. Let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes on low heat, stirring constantly.
If you use regular lasagna noodles, you'll want to boil them and follow the directions on the package. Otherwise you can use no-bake noodles.
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Take your lasagna pan and scoop a layer of sauce into it. Add a lasagna noodle. Add the remaining ingredients so that they follow this order: sauce, lasagna noodle, meat mixture, spoonful of ricotta cheese and fresh mozzarella cheese. Repeat with the rest of the layers. When you reach the top of the lasagna, drop another spoonful of sauce and an extra coating of cheese. Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil. Bake for about 45 minutes. Let it cool for another 15 minutes.
It's a good idea to reserve some sauce on the side for the lasagna. That way, when it's sliced for each guest, you can give it one more dollop of sauce.
