Care and Cleaning of a Panini Grill

By: Grace Alexander

The caring and cleaning of a panini grill is a snap if you have a little direction on what techniques work the best. Cleaning a panini grill is not always the easiest job in the kitchen as gooey melted cheese along with a selection of other items in your panini can easily leak out and make quite a mess. Whether you need to perform a big clean up or a quick touch up, there area few tips that will make cleaning your panini grill fast and easy.

Basic panini grill cleaning tips

Before cleaning your panini grill, make sure it is unplugged and has had a few minutes to cool down. This will keep you from getting an inadvertent burn or shorting the grill out by introducing water to the electrical components in the grill. Depending on the size and nature of the mess, you will generally only need a little paper towel or a sponge, and a tool to scrape off some tough stuck-on messes.

For small cleanups, all that is usually necessary is a damp paper towel. Use lukewarm soapy water to give the panini grill a good once over to remove any grease, crumbs, or bits of residue from the surface of the grill. Once that has been completed, use a paper towel that is moistened only using water -- no soap this time -- to give the grill another wipe down to remove any soapy residue that was left behind. In barely a minute or so, your Panini grill is clean!

Care of your panini grill after a messy cooking session

For bigger messes, a sponge with a soft and abrasive side will usually do the trick. After a couple passes using the abrasive side and soapy water, everything should be loosened up enough to go back over it using the soft side of the sponge and fresh nonsoapy water. If there is still any stuck-on residue, a plastic scraper tool with a prong or edge that can get in the grooves will usually do the trick. Keep in mind that panini grills with removable grill plates can in most cases be run through the dishwasher, but you will want to confirm that with your owner's manual first.
