Ravioli dough recipes are so simple even a child could prepare them. In fact, you should try teaching your children how to create this special family dish. Everyone will learn from the experience, and your children will love helping Mom.
Pasta making is as simple as one, two, three-literally-because only three ingredients are necessary when making pasta dough. You'll need eggs, salt and flour. You can also add a bit of water to the mix or a bit of vegetable oil, but these ingredients aren't necessary. Before you begin preparing the fresh pasta, make sure everyone around the table wears an apron and has washed her hands.
Easy Recipe For Ravioli Dough
Ingredients You Will Need:
2 to 3 cups white flour
2 to 3 eggs
½ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons water (optional)
2 tablespoons oil (optional)
Clean the countertop in front of each child, and then dump the flour in a small mountain in front of them. Have the children use their hands to make a well in the middle of the flour. Then, very carefully, allow them to break their eggs into the well and add the salt. Give each child a fork, and show them how to mix the flour in with the egg and salt carefully and gradually. If the dough is too dry, you can always add a little water and oil.
Once the dough has been created, show the children how to knead it by pushing it forward with the heels of your hands and then folding it over and over again until you have kneaded it for about 7 minutes. Kneading the dough is a necessary step, as this is what gets the gluten revved up and working. Gluten forms strands in the flour, helping to form dough that is pliable.
Once the dough is nice and elastic, divide it into two or three balls and work with one ball at a time. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough on a lightly floured surface. When you have reached a thickness of about ⅛ inch, stop rolling. Use small cookie cutters to cut the dough into animal shapes. Place a scant teaspoon of filling onto each animal shape, then place a second shape over top of it and seal the edges.
Give the classic boiled ravioli a twist by dropping the raviolis in hot oil instead of water. Deep-fried ravioli is just as light on the inside, but crunchy and golden outside. |
