If you're looking for a nutritious way to start the day, there's nothing like good low fat smoothies recipes to give you energy and the vitamins and minerals you need. Smoothies can hit the spot when you're craving something sweet but don't want to indulge in extra calories, serving as a satisfying dessert substitute. Smoothies are also excellent recovery drinks after intense exercise.

All of these recipes are low fat recipes, but that does not mean they are diet. Smoothies are lower in calories than recovery smoothies, so be careful to try the appropriate smoothie at the appropriate time. Smoothies are easy to prepare (simply combine the ingredients listed in a blender) and delicious. Try the following low fat smoothie recipes when you need a pick-me-up any time of the day:

Ingredients You Will Need:
1 banana
1 cup low fat vanilla yogurt
¼ cup chocolate protein powder
½ cup low fat chocolate milk
½ cup crushed ice

Combine ingredients in a blender; serve immediately. While this recovery smoothie is low fat, it is relatively high in calories. Use it as a recovery drink after intense exercise.

Low Fat Diet Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients You Will Need:
½ cup cold green tea, triple strength
½ cup fat-free green tea ice cream or frozen tofu
½ cup fat-free vanilla yogurt
½ cup fresh raspberries

Pour ½ cup of boiling water over three green tea bags and steep for three to five minutes. Remove tea bags and cool. Combine ingredients listed above in blender; serve immediately. Keep in mind this smoothie contains caffeine, which will increase metabolism but also may keep you awake at night; it's best to drink this smoothie earlier in the day and not as an evening dessert smoothie.
