Crock pot [Slow cooker] Peppers and Sausages
What could be better than a quick and easy meal that will always leave your family asking for more? Halfway through the meal, your family will be asking you if it's done yet! It's a great meal for families with kids. Best of all, it's a good way to get some extra veggies into their systems. The Prego sauce contains 100% natural ingredients for your family, along with 1 full serving of vegetables. [They'll never see that one coming!] and along with being a good source of vitamin A and potassium. They'll be begging you for seconds. It's also a great trick if your husband's having friends over and you just don't have enough time in the day to cook a full healthy meal for your family. Take 30 miniutes to prep, throw it all in the crockpot and you're ready to go. By the time you pick up the children from school and the husband's home, it'll be ready and waiting. It's a very filling and delicious meal that can instantly become a family favorite. And with this economy, all the ingredients would cost less than taking your family out to McDonald's, or out to pizza and is a much healthier, guilt-free dinnner for your loved ones, or just to spoil yourself for the night.
Serves:
- 3-4 people
Ingredients:
- 3-4 large green bell peppers
- 1 large white onion
- 8 hot Italian sausage links [Or sweet depending on your family preference]
- Prego Roasted Garlic & Herb sauce 26oz
- 1 clove minced garlic
- Your choice of Italian rolls, hoagie rolls, or spaghetti
Procedure:
- Take a large pot, and fill it with water.
- Place sausages in water, bringing it to a boil, and then continue to cook in water on medium heat for 20-30 minutes. The longer the better to get the fats out of the sausage now, rather than later on in the sauce.
- While sausages are cooking, cut up onions, peppers and garlic, and place aside.
- When sausages finish cooking, drain them from water, and let them cool. Then cut them in half laterally.
- Now add peppers, onions, and garlic to the crock pot, followed by the sausages. [Alternatively, if you like crispier onions/peppers, do not add them until 1-2 hours before the end of the crock pot process.]
- Coat the ingredients with Prego sauce.
- Cover and cook on high for 5 hours or low for 8.
- Serve on garlic bread, lightly toasted hoagies, or on top of pasta [works great with the leftovers].
