2 to 3 eggs, beaten
½ cup milk

Mix the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract and cinnamon in a shallow dish, such as a pie pan. Whip the mixture with a fork until light yellow and frothy. Heat a skillet, and add enough butter to fry the bread in but not enough to make the bread soggy. Try adding about ½ tablespoon of butter per slice of bread. Make sure the pan is hot and the butter has melted before you add the slices of bread.
Dip the bread in the batter and add to the pan, a slice at a time. Fry each side until golden. Place the French toast on a plate, sprinkle the toast with powdered sugar and add a pat of butter to each slice. Serve with warm syrup.
To cook French toast with something extra, dip the bread into the egg mixture and then into a second pie plate filled with crushed graham cracker crumbs before you fry it in the butter.
