How to Make Red Chili

By: kimmieking

Things You Will Need

1 One pound ground turkey roll

1 Bunch of cilantro

1 Can of  diced tomatoes

1 Can of green chilies

1 Tbs of jalapenos

1 Onion

1 Bell pepper

2 Cans each of:

Pinto beans

Dark red kidney beans

Black beans

Garbanzo beans

Chili beans

Salt to taste (*1 tsp)

Cumin to taste (*1 tbs)

Chili powder to taste (*1 tsp)

Minced garlic to taste (*1 Tbs)

Garlic salt to taste

Garlic powder to taste

Onion Powder to taste

Cayenne pepper to taste

2-4 Cups of water (depending on desired consistency)

Shredded cheese (your choice)

Flour tortillas

Sour cream

Diced onion

Brown the ground turkey in a large skillet. Dice the bell pepper and onion (cut into small pieces with a knife.) Add the onion and bell pepper to the skillet and saute until onion and bell pepper are tender.

In a large pot (approximately 9 quart size), Add all of the contents of the canned beans. Add the green chilies, the petite diced tomatoes, and the jalapenos. Dice the cilantro leaves (stems removed) and add it to the contents of the large pot. Add the cumin, the garlic salt, the garlic powder, and the onion powder to the contents of the large pot.

Stir the ingredients until well mixed. Add the contents of the skillet to the contents of the large pot and mix together well. Bring to a rapid boil then cover and simmer for at least 30 minutes (can simmer for hours.) Taste and adjust all seasonings to individual desired levels to achieve the exact flavor desired for your first pot of easy, fast, and healthy red chili.

Serve topped with shredded cheese (a combination of colby and cheddar is delicious) and warm flour tortillas. Garnish with sour cream, diced onions, and a sprig of cilantro.

This is a healthy twist on red chili, as ground turkey has a much lower fat content than beef, an ingredient in most traditional red chili recipes. This red chili is great to make first thing in the morning and then just allowed to simmer throughout the day. Serve as red chili (as described above) the first meal and then for the night meal, use the left-over red chili to smother burritos, corn chips, french fries, or tater-tots, top with shredded cheese, diced onion, and diced tomatoes if desired. What a great way to make two+ meals from one delicious pot of red chili!
