Red Chili Recipe

 

Items you will need

 

2 pounds ground hamburger

2 large onions

1 large green pepper

4 cloves of garlic

1 teaspoon jalapeno peppers

1 can dark red kidney beans

4 tablespoon chili powder

¼ teaspoon crushed red powder

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 can tomato juice 46 fluid ounces

2 cans diced tomatoes

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon ground cumin

Saltine crackers and shredded cheese are optional

Skillet

Large Pot

Knife and chopping block or food processor

Long handle mixing spoon

 

Prepare the hamburger

Brown the hamburger in a skillet or other suitable container.  Stir frequently to prevent the hamburger sticking together.  Once the hamburger has been browned, drain the grease from the hamburger. 

Finely chop the onion, green pepper, garlic and jalapeno peppers using knife and chopping block or food processor if you have one.

Add the onion, green pepper and garlic to the hamburger.   Let the mixture continue cooking three to five minutes to cook the flavor into the hamburger.  Be sure to continue stirring to prevent the hamburger from burning..

In a large pot, add the hamburger mixture, dark red kidney beans, chili powder, crushed red powder, sugar, salt, tomato juice and diced tomato's, black pepper and cumin. 

Set heat to high and bring mixture to a boil, stirring frequently.  Set the heat setting to low  and then simmer for twenty minutes stirring occasionally to prevent scorching on the bottom of the pan.  You may serve with saltine crackers.  

This recipe makes a nice thick chili medium chili.  If you prefer it juicier, you may add tomato juice one cup at a time. You may also adjust the chili powder and Holop Another great way to serve your chili is to put shredded cheese on top.  Monterrey Jack, Colby and Sharp Cheddar are excellent choices.
