If you prepare an Italian sausage and peppers recipe, the smell of the dish frying will bring the whole family to the table. Sausage is delicious in its own right, what with all those savory spices and mouthwatering aromas, but when you mix it with the lively taste of peppers, the taste and texture is fantastic.
Any kind of sausage can be used when making sausage and peppers, but Italian sausage delivers the best results. Maybe it's the fennel seed or coriander, maybe it's the basil and paprika or maybe it's the way all of these spices blend together that makes each bite so scrumptious.
Recipe for Sausage and Pepper Rollups
Ingredients You Will Need:
2 pounds Italian sausage
½ bell pepper, chopped
½ yellow pepper, chopped
½ green pepper, chopped
½ large onion, chopped
2 tablespoons crushed red pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
10-ounce container Alfredo sauce
Lasagna noodles, cooked
Parmesan cheese, grated
Spaghetti sauce
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Remove casings, and cut the sausage into slices. Fry the sausage, peppers, onion, crushed red pepper and garlic. Heat until the sausage has browned and all traces of pink are gone. Drain the excess oil from the pan, and add the Alfredo sauce.
Lay the lasagna noodles side by side on the counter, and sprinkle parmesan cheese on the strips. Then place one large spoonful of meat mixture on the end of each lasagna noodle, and roll it up.
Spread a thin layer of spaghetti sauce into a shallow baking pan. Place the rollups into the pan. When the rollups are all in the pan, spread the remaining spaghetti sauce over the top.
Cover and bake for one half hour. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and return to the oven for 10 minutes. Remove, and serve immediately.
Tip: This dish can be made without the lasagna noodles. Simply follow the directions for cooking it on the stove, and omit the lasagna and spaghetti sauce.
