The symptoms of bladder infection are easy to spot and difficult to ignore. Most bladder infections come on strong, with serious pain and discomfort. If you suspect you have a bladder infection and your symptoms match those listed below, see a doctor as soon as possible so you can get a prescription for an antibiotic.

Pain When Urinating
The most common symptom of a bladder infection is tremendous pain when urinating. If it hurts to void your bladder, see a doctor.

Bloody Urine
Sometimes your urine will appear bloody when you have a bladder infection. This is because the infection is causing bleeding in your urinary tract.

Cloudy Urine
Your urine may look cloudy and have a strong odor, indicating the presence of bacteria in your urine.

Difficulty Urinating
You may feel the sensation that you desperately need to urinate and then be unable to actually void your bladder or release more than a tiny bit of urine at a time. This is a sign that your bladder infection is irritating your urethra.

Frequent Urination
You may feel as if you have to urinate again minutes or even seconds after voiding your bladder. The urge to urinate may be overwhelming.

Irritation of the Urethra
You will feel general discomfort and irritation in your urethra.

Presence of Bacteria in Urine Sample
The doctor will take a urine sample to determine if there is bacteria present in your urine, a sure-fire sign that you have a bladder infection.

Fever
If the infection goes untreated, your body will develop a fever and chills as your body strives to fight the infection. Sometimes you will develop a only a low-grade fever, but sometimes a high fever is present.

Nausea and Vomiting
Sometimes a bladder infection will cause you to have abdominal distress and discomfort, from pelvic pressure to feel ill as if you have the stomach flu.
