Sitz Bath Hemorrhoid Remedy
A sitz bath may be just the thing for quick hemorrohid relief. A sitz bath will stimulate circulation, reduce inflammation, relieve itching and reduce pain. A traditional sitz bath is a bath in which you only submerge your hips, buttocks and lower abdomen in the water. While you may enjoy a traditional sitz bath, you may also experience hemorrhoid relief from a full body or lower body bath. If you do not have a suitable sitz bath set up in your bathroom, try using a lower body bath in a regular bathtub as part of your plan as to how to get rid of hemorrhoids.
Preparing a Sitz Bath to Relieve Hemorrhoid Irritation
Line the tub with a bath mat for safety. You don’t want the basin to slip or to slide down while taking your sitz bath.
Place a sitz bath basin inside your bathtub and fill it with warm or cool water. If you do not have a sitz bath basin, fill the tub with only a couple inches of water, then get into the bathtub so that only your buttocks, lower abdomen and hips are submerged. Rest your feet, legs and arms over the sides of the bathtub.
Use Epsom salt in the water to provide a soothing soak. Epsom salt is excellent for relieving hemorrhoids. Different people respond to different amounts of Epsom salt, so you’ll have to experiment with how much salt you use. Start with a small amount, and keep adding until you feel relief. Be careful not to spill salt into scratches or wounds.
Use warm or cool water, depending on which provides you the most relief. Never use hot water. Soak for 20-30 minutes. After your bath, pat dry with a clean towel, then put on loose fitting clothing. Resist the urge to scratch or rub vigorously with the towel as this will increase irritation.
