Tibetan sound healing instruments have been used for centuries. They date back to before the origins of Buddhism and are used today for stress relief, pain relief and for both cancer prevention and healing.
The practice of sound healing is usually associated with Tibetan singing bowls, but in actuality the sound healing therapy system is based on the usage of three types of instruments: the singing bowls, the ganta and the tingshas. These three instruments are used together to induce a state of higher consciousness, eliminating the inner chatter and buzz of dialogue and leading you to a place of enlightenment and meditation. It is believed that when you enter a trance-like state, natural healing abilities are opened and released, allowing the body to heal and repair itself. The sounds emitted by the Tibetan sound healing instruments lead you to this trance-like state of mind.
These three instruments work together. The singing bowls emit varying sounds and strong vibrations which are experienced at a cellular level. The idea is that these vibrations can cause changes in the cells of the body. The ganta is a bell which is said to emit unifying sounds and the tingshas are said to initiate healing.
The bowls are the primary instruments used. Each bowl is crafted from seven metal alloys and tuned so that a set of bowls can play five different frequencies of tone. Mantras and spiritual songs are chanted as the bowls are made, so spiritual intent is infused into the bowls as they are created.
It is said that the bowls' vibrations are related to the Sanskrit mantra "om," which is believed to bring healing and restoration when chanted. The vibrations associated with these sounds stimulate the nervous system, causing the release of pain inhibitors and other healing responses. Because it is easy to fall into a trance when listening to these sounds, you should experience peace, serenity and rejuvenation after the bowls have been played for you in a sound healing session.
Some Western practitioners have begun to use healing with sound as a supplementary part of cancer prevention and treatment. The theory behind this movement is the belief that meditation induced by sound healing can trigger relaxation and the bolstering of the immune system.
Energy healing therapy is an ancient practice based on the belief that our life force energy becomes imbalanced during times of stress or physical disease. A complement, not a replacement for Western medicine, it can help reduce stress, manage pain and clear blocked energy believed to cause illness or disease. |
