Are You As Good As You Think You Are?

By: Omar Hasan

An artist wants to be the best and receive accolades for his/her work. An unfavorable comment hurts your ego and damage self esteem. How can someone say my art work is alright? He doesn't appreciate it? My friends and family love it. Maybe it's not that great. Are my family members and friends being honest with their assessment? Your mood is blue and the cycle of second guessing is neverending.

At this point, you have to trust in yourself whether you're a writer, painter, musician, filmmaker or any other kind of artist. Everyone has different tastes. So it doesn't matter how long it takes to write a novel, paint a portrait of a dog, play a cello with a live band or produce a indie film in the Cayman Islands. Get over yourself. Maybe the person is angry at someone before delving into your work. Who knows and who cares.

You can't control people's emotions or state of mind. It's a waste of time. Move on and keep pushing your product to the masses. Analyze your work of art to see if it adds value to people's lives. What can a person learn? Can I change one's feelings and emotions in a positive manner? One of the best methods is asking the person for feedback and ideas.

Nonetheless, keep expanding your artistry by reading and creating work. Do something different to push your comfort zone. Creativity can change the landscape of your field. Who wouldn't want to be a pioneer of a new vision? But you can't move in this direction if you worry about people's opinions. Successful artists believe in their work and never look back.

They understand that they'll have failures and successes. Also, in some occasions it takes time for the public to accept certain things. Whenever you share your work with the world there will always be an opinion.
