Everyone has those days, the ones where your self esteem is, for whatever reason, at an all-time low. Maybe you've even had a couple of weeks with the proverbial rain cloud over your head. If you need a self esteem jolt and you need it now, there are tricks you can put into place that can serve as a kick-start. Once you're feeling better in the moment, you will be well on your way to getting that sense of self esteem right back up where it should be.
Take a Load Off
Chill. Seriously, just relax. People often note their self esteem taking a dip when they are too stressed for their own good. When they don't have time to plan an attack or psych themselves up, self doubt sets in and self esteem checks out.
Find time for a long, hot shower. Treat yourself to a massage, a manicure, a perfectly made latte in a coffeeshop. Even five minutes spent with your eyes closed as you focus on your breathing can make a huge difference and help your self esteem rise.
Make a List, Check It Twice
Sometimes a self esteem boost can be as simple as realizing how much you are capable of accomplishing - even if you don't necessarily realize your successes in the moment. Make a list of the projects you are working on during a week and check each item off that list when it is completed. At week's end, you will see how much you have done, how much you are capable of and how well you attacked each task.
Ask for a Boost
It is never a sign of weakness to ask for a little help - the same goes for your self esteem. If you're feeling particularly low, tell a friend or loved one what you're going through. They are some of the people who know you best, which means they will be able to point out your strongest qualities without seeming insincere. If you weren't pretty remarkable, why would they care about you as much as they do?
Laugh
Take yourself to the movies and check out the latest comedy. Find the funniest friend you know and ask him to tell you a story. Get tickled. Whatever the case, develop an incurable case of the giggles. Laughter has been proven to elicit feelings of happiness and joy in your body. If you can get laughing, you'll be able to set that sense of diminished self esteem aside.
Treat Yourself
Money can't buy happiness, but treating yourself to a nice item of jewelry, clothing or electronic gadgetry can help you realize how deserving you are of nice things. Not only will you take pleasure in owning something aesthetically or practically pleasing, you will gain the added benefit of being envied by the people with whom you come in contact. That will give your already improving self esteem even more of a boost.
